We all come here for the tranquility and beauty that is the hallmark of the Kennebago experience. The biggest risk to our future is the possibility that our behavior as individuals intrudes upon that tranquility. Our president, officers, and directors come here for the same reasons as all shareholders. They volunteer much of their precious time here to attend to the business of Kennebago. Each of us has a responsibility to minimize the disruption of their enjoyment while here. We must all think of ways, large and small, to make their jobs easier. Follow the rules, take care of anything you can on your own, take full responsibility for your property, kids, guests, and dogs, and go out of your way to be a good neighbor to all. Volunteer. If we do these things, the wonderful Kennebago experience will continue for generations to come.
Contacts about KLC matters with contractors, neighboring landowners, government agencies, and other organizations and individuals with which KLC does business shall require prior approval by an officer of KLC. [adopted by KLC board 8/9/2014]
Remove nozzle and lift silver lever. Reset counter to zero. Lower the lever and replace nozzle. Enter name and number of gallons pumped on clipboard inside garage shed door. Gas is unleaded and restricted to boat and small engine use. Gas contains ethanol which is unstable and can lead to water in your boat’s gas tank. A stabilizer is added to the main tank. Adding stabilizer to your motor’s tank is advised.
Filling of vehicles is not allowed!
Shareholders should be given priority over guests.
Dogs must be under the control of their owners at all times. Owners will pick up after their dogs.
In the interest of safety for shareholders and guests of KLC, with horses being kept on, or ridden on, the property, adhere to the following guidelines when horses are present:
Horses may be kept in the upper eld. Owner will be responsible for disposing of manure.
Anyone walking a dog in the area should have their pet on a leash to prevent injury to the pet.
Shareholders and guests should not feed or pet the horses without the horse owner’s permission.
Horses should be ridden no faster than a trot in the area around the camps.
Cars and bikes should slow down if horses are on the road, so as not to spook them.
Horses will be permitted from Labor Day (the first Monday in September) until May 31.
One life jacket required per person in any boat.
Shareholder families and guests should stay informed on the latest State of Maine boating regulations, as these rules change.
Boats with motors of any size must display a current (yearly) registration as required by Maine law. Boats that are not registered cannot be launched or docked. The registration certificate can be obtained by mail or in person from:

Fisher persons must have a valid fishing license prior to fishing in inland waters or transporting fish taken from inland waters. A fisher person is required to keep their fishing license with them at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.
Maine residents under 16 years of age and non-residents under 12 years of age may fish without a license.
Skiers should not ski before 9am or during evening fishing (5pm on). Hours may be extended if not interfering with fishing. Responsible spotters required. No skiing close to shoreline. Skiing and tubing should start 100 ft. from T. The Bay between the T and the end of Treasure Island should only be used to enter and exit the skiing area which is beyond Treasure Island. All skiers should be aware of the desire of the Association at the other end of the lake to limit motor horsepower and should avoid skiing at the north end of the lake.
No motors larger than 40 HP unless agreed upon at shareholder’s meeting.
Can’t be installed in camps.
Can’t be installed in camps.
Dock space is at a premium. One docked boat per camp is allowed at any time. Camps that have more than one boat should remove any additional boat from the water or the slips when that boat is not in use.
Canoes, kayaks and sailing craft are allowed. When not in use during the summer they can be left on the shore on the beach to the east of the T and on the grass west of the T. If they are stored on the beach, owners should recognize bathers (particularly small children) need access to the water.
KLC does not store boats on behalf of shareholders in any of its facilities. Boat owners are responsible for boat storage. Storage options include:
in, or under the Camps they occupy;
off-site at a commercial facility;
on-site using shrink wrapping and stored outdoors at a location decided by our caretaker.
Flat soled tennis shoes must be worn. Players must drag the court and sweep lines after use.
Drive slowly in Camp and adhere to speed limits on the road in and out of Camp. The road between 2nd and 3rd Camps on the row should be used as little as possible. Cars should be parked in designated areas. It is the owner’s responsibility to inform guests of those areas.
Fly-fishing at Kennebago means fly casting. Flies used with a spinning outfit are illegal. Trolling is illegal. Wardens have considered drifting a dry fly as trolling in the past. Be careful.
We value our relationship with the local Game Wardens and the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and require strict adherence to their regulations. Daily limits in the boat and in refrigerators are particularly sensitive. These limits are the same.
If a shareholder invites guests (including second generation and family members) to Camp, the guests should be made aware of these rules and regulations. Shareholders should encourage guests to ask other shareholders any questions they have about procedures. Shareholders should feel free to respectfully approach any guests/family who may be disregarding these rules. If you are having guests when you are not in residence, please inform a Board member that they will be in camp.
Bathing or shampooing in the lake is not allowed.
Not allowed anywhere on the grounds.
Jet skis, dirt bikes, ATVs and similar vehicles are not allowed.
All garbage must be packed in heavy duty plastic bags and closed securely. Double bag if necessary. Only bagged trash can be placed in the dumpster.
Only recyclables go in the shed.
Disposal of everything except bagged trash and recyclables is the responsibility of the shareholder. Leave only the above mentioned items in the shed or dumpster. Do not leave lamps, chairs, old stereos, rugs, fans, etc. in the dumpster or in or near the shed.
Due to bears coming near the camps, garbage must not be left on porches overnight.
Fireplace ashes are not allowed in the shed no matter how old or how cold. They must be drowned twice and taken to the gravel pit.
Target shooters at the old dump should pick up their spent shells and cartridges when finished. Do not shoot glass containers.
Changes to the appearance of camps, major repairs and all additions must have the approval of your next door neighbor(s), the architectural committee, and the board of directors. All work must be done with a valid LURC permit when required. Work must be done between 9am and 5pm, and with respect to neighboring camps. No construction is allowed between July 1 and Labor Day.
It is requested that all boats slow down within the Treasure Island cove in order to minimize noise and erosion.
Protect our privacy. Ask any strangers if they need any help. If they don’t belong, show them the way out. This is not a public access for boating or fishing.
Littering of any kind is unacceptable. This includes cigarette butts. Shareholders, families, and guests will pick up after themselves in all areas of Kennebago including the dock, Back Beach, Fontinalis, etc.
Throwing of stones from the T is not allowed at any time.
As per Maine law, fireworks are not permitted.
No cutting or killing of any living tree greater than 4 inches in diameter (four feet above the ground) is allowed.
Each shareholder of Kennebago Lake Camps Inc. must insure that this unique watershed is preserved and protected. We need to be mindful of the threat posed by invasive plant species, particularly Eurasian Milfoil. Shareholders and their families must insure that no boat or small craft contaminated with milfoil is launched on Kennebago waters. To that end:
Only the boats, sailboats and small craft of Kennebago shareholders and their families may be launched at Kennebago. No guests may bring or launch personal boats or small craft.
Any boat with trailer, sailboat or small craft new to Kennebago waters (except those purchased new from a factory dealer) shall be inspected by state officials for milfoil prior to launching and the shareholder shall have written documentation of the boat’s uncontaminated condition.
Any boat with trailer, sailboat or small craft which leaves Kennebago waters shall be inspected for milfoil by state officials prior to re-launching, and the shareholder shall have written documentation of the boat’s uncontaminated condition.
An enclosed box will be available at the entrance to the T for deposit of the necessary documentation demonstrating that the craft is not contaminated.
Notes:
Small craft include non-motorized watercraft such as canoes, rowboats, kayaks, paddleboards, rowing shells and similar recreational watercraft.
Possible milfoil contamination on small, smooth hulled craft such as canoes and kayaks may be reasonably prevented by power washing or scrubbing with a solution of bleach and water.
Know Before You Go: New England waters contaminated with milfoil are listed on various state websites. A reasonable steward of New England waters would not knowingly launch a boat into contaminated waters.
